Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 20, 2012

Missions change. Strategies change. Technologies change. Perhaps that’s why Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, warned “Change before you have to.” Because adapting to change fast requires both project management and accelerated learning, the Project Management Professionals (PMPs) at Cheetah Learning http://www.cheetahlearning.com/LinkTracker/track.asp?id=228 have announced they are offering a new free download entitled “Making Change Stick.”

How important an issue is it?

In a recent survey, IBM’s Global Business Services division asked more than 1,500 CEOs about what leaders will need to steer their companies going forward. Number one on the list: “Expect to make more business model changes to realize their strategies.”

The second item on the list echoed Welch’s warning: “Invite disruptive innovation, encourage others to drop outdated approaches and take balanced risks.”

Michelle LaBrosse, founder and CEO of Cheetah Learning, knows a thing or two about change and risk: As a single mother of two, she started her company from scratch and built it into a multi-million dollar powerhouse in the Project Management education field, a competitive arena with 1,600 providers who are registered with the Project Management Institute (PMI).

“The one constant in all our lives is change and the faster we can adapt, the more quickly we can pursue emerging opportunities,” said LaBrosse, who was named by PMI as one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Project Management in the World. “Here’s the rub: We are wired for stability and to resist change. How can we use our skills to create business processes that have staying power?”

How, indeed.

Here are some highlights from LaBrosse’s “Making Change Stick.” Though they were created for Project Managers, they are helpful guidelines for any business professional.

Make Change Relevant to the People Who Need to Participate in It – “Part of your job is to make sure people not only know where you’re going, but that they also understand why they are going there. Explain why, and make it compelling.”

Paint a Picture of Success – “Make sure people can see what success looks like. If your change initiative is successful, what will the outcome be? Show your team what the result will look like.”

Plan for Fatigue – “Change fatigue is a normal part of any process change, so be ready for it. When you start to see people slacking on their goals and rolling their eyes in meetings, you are there. Shake up assignments. Assign new team leaders to different tasks.”

Keep Senior Leadership Engaged – “If your team sees that leadership no longer cares about this initiative or it is off their radar screen, they will lose interest. It’s your job to keep your leadership team up to speed and excited.”

Spend Time Focusing on How to Institutionalize the Change – “Once you’ve reached your milestones, look at how you are going to make this change permanent. What are the ongoing resources required? Use your skills to not only manage it but to make it stick.”

The full transcript of “Making Change Stick” is available as a part of “Accelerate Your Learning . . . Accelerate your Earning,” Cheetah’s theme for February. It can be found as a “Daily Tip To Keep You Tops” download at http://www.Facebook.com/CheetahLearning and Twitter http://www.cheetahlearning.com/LinkTracker/track.asp?id=231

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) February 17, 2012

Photometrics’ high-performance Evolve 128 EMCCD camera was used in the first single camera, multi-parameter cardiac imaging system. Oxford University and University of Michigan researchers employed the system to measure the electrophysiological function of adult human stem cell-derived heart tissue.

The findings were published as part of a review titled, “Optical Imaging of Voltage and Calcium in Cardiac Cells & Tissues,” in today’s issue of Circulation Research. The review describes advances in cardiac optical mapping, as it is referred to in the cardiac research community, for studying cardiovascular function and disease.

Using the Evolve 128 EMCCD camera and off-the-shelf components, the authors demonstrated for the first time the electrophysiological functions of adult human stem cell-derived heart tissue, which included simultaneous voltage and ratiometric calcium imaging on a macroscopic scale. This single camera, multi-parametric method represents a new optical mapping technique for quantitative measurement of cardiac tissue function from cellular monolayers to whole hearts.

“To acquire this type of data, traditional set-ups require the use of multiple cameras to collect emission spectra from each parameter, which is far too costly and technically difficult to replicate,” said Peter Lee, one of the study’s authors. “The single camera multi-parametric system using the Evolve 128 completely eliminates the need to align multiple cameras, which improves reproducibility, minimizes set-up time and drastically reduces equipment costs.”

The Evolve 128’s well-depth and high camera frame rate of ~1000 fps at 64×64 pixel resolution and 10-MHz readout enabled Lee to share frames between different parameters. By multiplexing the camera’s frame-exposures using a multi-band optical filter and powerful LEDs, Lee was able to successfully image three parameters with a single camera. His innovative approach will be integral in determining the underlying mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias and new cell-based therapies that will emerge from the biomedical field of cardiovascular regenerative medicine.

“Peter’s case is a great example of researchers relying on Photometrics’ technology and support to construct customized, scalable biomedical imaging systems,” said Rachit Mohindra, associate product manager at Photometrics.

A complete case study on how Lee and his colleagues executed this multi-parametric imaging approach is available on the Photometrics website, “Single-Camera, Multi-Parametric Imaging of Human Stem Cell-Derived Heart Tissue.”

Danville, CA (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

Dr. Ben Altadonna is the founder of The Practice Building Alliance™, America’s largest and most respected chiropractic marketing service and the author of Amazon.com’s best seller “The Fertile Ground Manual™.

For the first time in the history of Chiropractic, a new service created by Dr. Altadonna for Doctors of Chiropractic is replacing Chiropractic “Practice Building” Consultants.

Historically, Chiropractors have gone to seminars or signed contracts with practice building consultants for $ 10,000 or more per year, making them go away feeling more like a salesperson than a doctor.

“I have been in practice for 13 years. I joined PBA over a year and a half ago. I had been involved, over the years, with different ‘practice management groups.’ It was always the RAH! RAH!, here’s how you bill, here’s how you sell lifetime plans, etc. While some of the information was good, at times it seemed counter intuitive. I felt more like a used car sales person than an intelligent physician.

“I was looking for a way of interacting with my patients in order to continue the education process that began in the office but in a non-intrusive way. However, I didn’t have the time to do all the work myself. I found Dr. Altadonna and the rest is history.

“I am now able to keep in touch with my patients and educate them on a regular and consistent basis. I make my recommendations as a professional but don’t force them into anything they don’t want. Since I began giving them more choices, I have seen a growth in my practice and increase in referrals.

“The way I see it is, I have an aversion to hard sells and it typically drives me away, so why would I do that to my practice members?” says Dr. Aixa Goodrich.

Each day, more doctors of Chiropractic are turning away from consultants and joining “The Practice Building Alliance.”

Chiropractors who want to learn more about Dr. Altadonna’s new system should visit his chiropractic marketing blog at benaltadonnablog.com where he posts a daily marketing article and those interested can also stay in contact with him by adding him on Facebook.

(PRWEB) February 07, 2012

The first orientation training event for 10,000 London 2012 Games Maker volunteers and Games time employees took place at Wembley Arena in London. The event was the first of six national orientation events on 4th, 5th and 18th February which will form the biggest London 2012 events outside of the Games this year.

Around 10,000 people attend first of six orientation training events for Games Makers and employees at Wembley Arena
Orientation sessions to take place in London in February and across the UK in March
Images from the event available to download here

The events are the first stage in the training programme for London 2012 employees and up to 70,000 ‘Games Makers’, the volunteers who will to help make the Games a success. Around 70% of the trainees at each session will be volunteers.

The Orientation Training events provide an introduction to the heritage and importance of the Games as well as an insight into what working at London 2012 will be like, including the sports, venues and the roles. Games Makers will leave the session prepared for the next steps on the journey to Games time. The sessions include welcome talks from hosts, presentations and mocked up scenarios which will introduce all Games time workers to the realities of putting on an event the size of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Six smaller regional orientation sessions will be held in March for Games Makers who have been offered roles at venues outside of London in Weymouth and Portland, Cardiff, Coventry, Newcastle, Manchester and Glasgow. Invites for these have started to be sent out.

By the time the Games Makers reach Games Time, collectively they will have undertaken 1.2 million hours of training. Around 8 million volunteer hours across the summer of 2012 will be used.

Games Makers will also receive role-specific training from February onwards where they will learn all they need to know to carry out their role successfully and also have the opportunity to try out the duties they’ll be doing at Games time. They will then receive venue-specific training in June which will familiarise volunteers with their venue. Team leaders will also receive event leadership training.

Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG, said: “Today marks a significant milestone in our preparation for the Games. These orientation events are the start of our extensive training programme which will deliver over 1 million training hours for up to 70,000 people from around the country. Our Games Makers will contribute a total of around 8 million volunteer hours during the Games and simply wouldn’t happen without them. I hope that the orientation training they receive has made them even more excited about being part of the London 2012 team this summer.”

The orientation events are the first time Games Makers will be together following the selection events and the first time they will have the opportunity to meet the wider work force. The sessions will be attended by London 2012 volunteers, paid LOCOG staff and contractors.

2,000 young people will be taking up volunteer roles during the London 2012 Games, as part of the Young Games Maker programme. Approximately 250 teams of young people will join the adult Games Makers this summer to help stage the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Their training will take a similar format over the coming months.

Worldwide Olympic Partner McDonald’s is the Presenting Partner of the Games Maker volunteer programme. McDonald’s has used its nationwide presence to help attract candidates for the diverse team that will be needed to make the London 2012 Games a success. The LOCOG Volunteer team held training sessions for many of the volunteers conducting interviews at the world-class training facilities at McDonald’s head office in East Finchley, London and the restaurant chain will also be helping to facilitate the training of the volunteers in the run up to Games time.

Jez Langhorn, Vice President, People, McDonald’s UK, said: “With the first orientation event getting underway it feels like the Games are nearly here. We’ve been hard at work to help plan and design the training materials that will prepare the volunteers for the challenge ahead, drawing on our experience in delivering great customer service and award-winning training programmes on a large scale.

“As the Games Makers prepare for their role this summer, McDonald’s will to be on hand to support them every step of the way. It’s an exciting time to be part of the hospitality sector as we prepare to put the country on show to millions of visitors this summer and I’m proud of the role we will have played in making sure our volunteers are ready.”

Almost a quarter of a million people applied to the Games Maker programme in 2010 and a team of specially trained volunteer interviewers has been carrying out selection interviews since February 2011. Up to 100,000 interviews will have been conducted over the course of the programme and of these; 76,000 interviews have taken place to date in nine selection centres around the UK. Interviews will continue in London’s selection centre at ExCeL through to the end of March 2012.

So far 55,000 offers have been made for roles at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Offers are continuing to be made, with the final role expected to be filled at the end of April.

Cadbury is an Official Supporter of the London 2012 Games Maker programme and will help LOCOG build great Games Maker teams through fun and friendly game play delivered by programmes such as the Spots v Stripes campaign.

For further information please contact the London 2012 Press Office

Amongst the people attending the orientation training are:

Elizabeth (Betty) Ragget, 74, Hove, Brighton, Retired

Elizabeth is a retired news-agent and now works part-time stewarding in a theatre. During Games Time she has been assigned a role based at the International Federation Office at the Excel Centre, where she will be involved in Boccia. Elizabeth belongs to a service club and does a lot of fundraising. She has two daughters, one of which is the Boccia competition manager at the Paralympic games. Her daughter formally taught sport to disabled children which is one of the reasons Elizabeth decided to apply to be a volunteer. Elizabeth says: ‘I can’t wait for games-time; it’s a fantastic opportunity to show the rest of the world what Britain can do. I’ve applied so I can do something worthwhile and be part of it all’. Elizabeth’s granddaughter has also applied to be a volunteer which means three generations within her family will be working and volunteering at London 2012.

Beryl Stratton, 73, Chingford, retired

Beryl is a mother of three and a grandmother of four and has dedicated 50 years of her life to volunteering. During Games Time, she will be volunteering as an athletics services team member in the Olympic Stadium. Her husband, 75, and son will also be volunteering, as a Games Maker and London Ambassador respectively. The Strattons, married for 48 years, have been volunteering together at athletics meets and have also been to the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics together. Beryl’s husband is the reason she first became interested in athletics 40 years ago and she was inspired to become a Games Maker when she saw an 80 year old female volunteer at the Sydney Games. Beryl is honoured to be involved in the volunteering and delighted to be able to share this opportunity with her husband.

Joe Mason, 18, Sawtry, Cambrideshire , Student

Joe is currently in his first year at Leeds University studying broadcast journalism. During Games Time he has been assigned a role for badminton within the sports equipment team at Wembley arena and Redbridge badminton training centre. He is a keen player and first volunteered at his local badminton club for his Duke of Edinburgh bronze award when he was 14. He has since found a taste for volunteering and for the last two years has been a volunteer at national badminton indoor events and undertaken his badminton umpiring course. Joe is overwhelmed that he has the chance to be part of the Olympic Games and is enthusiastic to see his badminton volunteering progress.

During Games Time Sarah will be volunteering at the cycling and athletics events along with a few of her colleagues who have also been selected. Sarah is really happy with her role as she has volunteered previously at a few of the London Marathons. As soon as Sarah heard volunteers were being recruited for the games she knew straight away she wanted to be a part of it with her background in the volunteering sector as well as being part of such a spectacular event.

Phil Cobb, 59, Loughborough, Contracts Manager for Charnwood Council

Phil has been assigned a role for the volleyball events. He’s ecstatic at being offered a role related to his favourite sport.

Cassim Patel, 30, Preston, Portfolio Manager
He has volunteer experience with local charities, supporting disabled people and Macmillan cancer patients. Helping comes naturally to Cassim as he cared for his disabled father from the age of 14. Cassim has been allocated a role as a EVS Mobility Team Member, OPK Common Domain.

Kevin O’Malley, 50, Halifax, West Yorks, Resource Manager
Kevin has played in local and all four divisions of the volleyball National League, during which time he was also qualified as a coach and referee. He now concentrates on coaching the Yorkshire U15 boys and the North England U18 boys and is one of the founding members and chair of a National League club in Division 1. Kevin’s enthusiasm for the sport has rubbed off on his son Kieran O’Malley (23) who is pro volleyball player in Holland and a GB Volleyball squad member with 73 caps for England. Kevin never thought he would have the opportunity to experience an Olympics and can’t wait to actually be a part of the Games.

Sarah Pocklington, 44, nr Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, British Red Cross

Sarah will be a team leader working at London Heathrow meeting and greeting dignitaries, athletes and VIPs during the Games. Sarah’s passion for sport originally spurred from playing Ultimate Frisbee but she found a love of volunteering in the sport rather than playing, finding that she enjoyed helping and supporting the team. Sarah has been involved in the Olympics volunteering process right from the beginning as she trained Selection Event Volunteers at Weymouth and Coventry centres and was a Selection Event Volunteer at London Excel. Sarah’s brother-in-law, who inspired her to sign up, is also volunteering at the Games.

Ellie (Eleanor) Cox, 25, Wimbledon, London, works in the Finance sector in London

Ellie is very excited about games. She was an athlete at European level playing Badminton between the ages of 11-20. She knows many of the Badminton players after playing for England and regularly visits the national badminton centre. She’s a big fan of London and loves the huge energetic feel to large scale community events. She believes the games will re-generate and improve the local areas. She thinks an emotional uplift is what the city needs and believes the games will be a much needed boost for 2012. Ellie is a big fan of sport, she cycles to work, runs a lot and plays squash. She lives alone and is a true Londoner, born and bred in Wimbledon. Ellie would rather not talk about her work although she does work in finance in the City of London and enjoys a lovely social life.

Cathal Cunning, 47, Portstewart, Northern Ireland, Chef

Cathal, born and bred in Portstewart, will be volunteering as a member of the transport team in the Olympics Village during the Games. He first got involved in volunteering at 19 when he started marshalling at the Coleraine District Motor Club and has been Chief Marshal there for the last seven years. The North West 200, Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, runs through Cathal’s hometown and it is for this reason his whole family have been involved in motorsports volunteering. Cathal has found that volunteering brings family and friends together and he is eager to get involved with the once in a lifetime opportunity of volunteering at the Games.

Gordon is honoured to be part of the team of staff preparing and supporting Great Britain’s first ever Sitting Women’s team for London 2012.

He was working at Eastway leisure centre, now on the site of Olympics, after being in the army for 26 years and started coaching volleyball. It was when he liaised with disability organisation Les Autres that he started to build up sitting volleyball as a sport.

Carol has been teaching her students about the Olympics for over 25 years, she believes sport connects people from all around the world and that it overrides all the discriminations including race, age and gender. She has been the international head coach of the England cadet boys volleyball team since 1996. She believes that England was the founder of competitive sports in the 1880s and having the Games in London in 2012 will mean we all have to put our best foot forward and make England proud. Her colleagues at the national league club have volunteered too and many have been appointed official jobs relating to volleyball.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

National Freedom day is a celebration that memorializes President Abraham Lincoln signing the thirteenth amendment into the United States Constitution and outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865. National Freedom Day marks an important time in the history of United States because under the thirteenth amendment slavery and involuntary solitude became illegal in the United States.

“As part of the celebrations of the National Freedom Day, PennFord high school organized an event in which students & alumni organized a play that focused on the important events in slavery and the timeline of rise and fall of slavery in the United States, emphasizing the important roles that individuals like Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln played in slavery’s eventual end. In play the events of slavery in the United States were tied to the Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century. Further emphasizing the fact that, even though slaves had been freed, they were not considered to be equal once they became free”. The event was broadcasted live on the internet and many of the PennFord High School Alumni participated virtually by giving speeches and sharing their views on National Freedom Day. With freedom and equality being central themes behind National Freedom Day School Activity, it was appreciated by the parents of students and individuals who were invited from different communities. Chief Guest at the event was a well renowned social rights activist and in her key note speech, she highly appreciated the event and the overall management of PennFord High School.

President Lincoln had signed the 13th Amendment on the first day of February that date was chosen to celebrate National Freedom Day. Major Richard Robert Wright Senior, a former slave who founded the National Freedom Day Association, played a crucial role in creating the observance. The first commemoration took place on February 1, 1942, at Independence Hall. As it has every year since, the remembrance included laying a wreath at the Liberty Bell. On June 30, 1948, President Harry Truman signed a bill to proclaim February 1 as the first official National Freedom Day in the United States.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Dyce’s Parkland guitar lessons are crystal-clear, and easy to follow. Instead of focusing on endless theory and scales; Dyce gives beginning guitarists real music to play—from their very first lesson. He begins with just one or two simple-to-play chords that sound great. He then shows students how to put these chords together. In no time, students find that they are playing hip, interesting, foot-tapping grooves. In fact, within just a few lessons, most students are playing real songs; classics that everyone knows and loves.

Many students don’t realize that their first guitar teacher can have an incredible impact on their future musical experience. Dyce Kimura’s Weston guitar lessons are way ahead of most teachers’ lessons: he makes the guitar fun, and his students get results.

Dyce’s guitar lessons for the absolute beginner are crafted with the “big picture” in mind. Each lesson plan flows logically to the next. Students learn the guitar the right way: building on concepts, reinforcing knowledge, and building confidence.

The response to Dyce’s Parkland and Skype guitar lessons is amazing: students love the fact that—within almost no time at all—they are playing songs that friends instantly recognize, and sing along with.

Dyce Kimura is a full-time guitar instructor, and one of Miami’s most in-demand guitar rock and blues player. When Dyce is not teaching others, he can be found playing Christian contemporary, praise and worship music, and serving as both ministry and worship leader.

Besides being Ft. Lauderdale’s most in-demand guitar teacher, he is now providing webcam guitar lessons to students throughout Parkland and Weston via Skype. Dyce’s 1-on-1 Skype guitar lessons are popular for a reason: they make learning just so easy. All that is required is a high-speed internet connection, a webcam and mic—standard on any newer computer, a Skype account (easy to create), and headphones (optional).

For more information on Dyce’s guitar lessons, call 786 457 3687 today.

(PRWEB UK) 10 February 2012

A new contract formalising the delivery of examinations worldwide has been signed by the British Council and the University of London International Programmes.

The University of London International Programmes has more than 50,000 students worldwide studying for a University of London qualification on more than 100 programmes.

Under the new three-year contract, the British Council will contribute to the delivery of more than 117,000 local examinations a year for students of the International Programmes. Under this agreement, the British Council will deliver examinations in 75 countries. These will include Brazil, China, India, Pakistan and Tunisia. Crucially, the move will enable students of the International Programmes to exercise greater choice in where they sit their examinations, which are all set and marked by academics at the Colleges of the University of London.

The new contract brings together the long standing experience of both organisations in delivering quality UK higher education across the world; the International Programmes, dating back to 1858, is currently operating in 190 countries, whilst the British Council has a strong presence in 110 countries, working in Education, English and the Arts.

Professor Jonathan Kydd, Dean of the University of London International Programmes, welcomed the new contract. He said: “In effect, we have formalised our long-standing relationship with the British Council, which has been a key player for many years now in administering our examinations at a local level. This makes a real difference to our students who can choose where to sit their examinations in their home country. This is in line with our commitment to provide access to quality University education for all who could benefit.”

Mark Walker, Director Examinations at the British Council, said: “With more international students now accessing UK higher education from outside the UK than those who access it through coming to the UK, universities need secure but customer-friendly ways of delivering their assessments throughout the world. The British Council’s examination service enables them to access many more markets than they would otherwise be able to. The University of London has a long history of making education widely available and we are very pleased to be working with them to make their qualifications available around the globe.”

For more information, contact Mark Moulding in the British Council Press Office on 0207 389 4889 or mark.moulding@britishcouncil.org or Binda Rai at the University of London International Programmes on 0207 862 8545 or binda.rai@london.ac.uk

Notes to Editors:

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide. We work in over 100 countries in the arts, education and English and in 2010/11 we engaged face to face with 30 million people and reached 578 million. We have 6,800 staff worldwide. Our total turnover in 2010/11 was £693 million, of which our grant-in-aid from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office was £190 million. The remainder was generated through trading activities such as English language teaching and administering examinations. For every £1 of taxpayer money invested we earn £2.65 in additional income. For more information, please visit: http://www.britishcouncil.org.

Each year the British Council delivers over 2.5m examinations to more than 1.9m individuals in 92 countries across the world. Through our global network we support UK institutions in marketing their qualifications overseas, and provide a secure delivery network for their examinations. This directly results in £50m of export earnings for UK awarding bodies for assessment, not including related sales for the UK in associated publishing and training provision. Additionally it promotes the UK as a source of high quality and fair education opportunities.

By providing access to UK school, English language and professional qualifications the British Council provides people overseas with access to educational opportunities, networking and cultural exchange, to achieve their study and career aspirations.

The University of London International Programmes

1. The University of London was established in 1836 and is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse universities in the UK. Its founding principle is to provide education for all, irrespective of race, creed or political belief.

2. In 1858, the University of London was granted its fourth Charter, which paved the way for the establishment of the University of London External System, which became known as the University of London International Programmes from 1 August 2010.

3. The University of London International Programmes is the world’s oldest provider of degrees through distance and flexible learning.
