First Woman President of the AVMA to Speak at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine’s 2009 Graduation

Ross University is pleased to announce that Mary Beth Leininger, D.V.M., will speak at its 2009 graduation ceremony at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday, June 5.
Dr. Leininger is widely known as being the first female president of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a position she held from 1996-1997.
“We are excited to welcome such a well-known and respected individual to our commencement ceremony and look forward to her speaking to our students as they prepare to embark on their veterinary careers,” said Dr. David DeYoung, dean of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Leininger joined Hill’s Pet Nutrition in 1999 as director of professional affairs, a position from which she will retire in April. She received her veterinary medical degree from Purdue University, and for more than 30 years was co-owner of Plymouth Veterinary Hospital, an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)-accredited hospital in Plymouth, MI.
Dr. Leininger has been president of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, and has received numerous awards from veterinary and professional organizations, as well as from the veterinary schools at Michigan State University and Purdue University. Her most recent honors include being elected as a Distinguished Practitioner in Veterinary Medicine in the National Academies of Practice, and receiving an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Purdue University and a Midwest Region Service Award from the American Animal Hospital Association.
