Trash to Treasure Kids Fair at STAR ECO Station Wildlife Rescue Center

STAR ECO Station puts the 3 environmental RÂs into practice at its Trash to Treasure Kids Fair, Sunday, November 14th, 10am-2pm with games, crafts and activities that Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in celebration of America Recycles Day, plus a Trash to Treasure recycled art contest with $ 300 grand prize.
America Recycles Day 2004 (Nov. 15) is celebrated nationwide to support and encourage recycling by individuals and communities. California has participated in America Recycles Day since its national inception in 1997. There will be wide variety of community events in cities and counties throughout the state, such as marches, clean-up efforts, recycling collections, art contests, and recycled product fairs.
To encourage a commitment to recycling in the childrenÂs community, STAR ECO Station offers a hands-on lesson in recycling with its ÂTrash to Treasure Recycled Art Competition, Nov 14th, at its wildlife rescue facility in Culver City. School-age student groups of 20 or more are challenged to create a 4-foot sculpture crafted entirely from recycled materials (adults may not assist in construction of sculptures). Completed sculptures should be brought to the STAR ECO Station and submitted no later than Nov. 14, 10:45 am, along with a list of participating team members names. Bonus points to teams that submit photos of their sculpture’s construction. $ 300 grand prize to the winning team!

STAR ECO Station is a non-profit 18,000 sq-ft environmental education and wildlife rescue center, designed by Hollywood set designers to transport visitors to a tropical jungle setting! Through a partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, STAR ECO Station rescues and houses “at-risk” and endangered exotic wildlife. Visitors study ecology and environmentalism on a wild and fun encounter with rescued tropical birds, exotic reptiles, wildcats, ocean life and 15 educational displays, including the Santa Monica BayKeeperÂs walk-thru Kelp Forest display. With a mission of Conservation Through Education, STAR ECO Station is dedicated to creating a new generation of environmentalists committed to protecting the EarthÂs resources. The STAR ECO Station is open to the public on weekends for hands-on eco-educational tours, providing quality environmental science education aligned with California State Standards. Admission for weekend tours is $ 5 for children, $ 6 for seniors, and $ 7 for adults. The STAR ECO Station hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, including community events, workshops, conferences and birthday parties.
